Growing on logs & fence rails- / 1. Taste slightly nutty. / 2. Surface of Pileus, dry, covered with / soft short hairs, velvety to the touch- / funnel form- with edge rolling over- / 3. Lamellae- white turning pale yellow. / heterophyllous, narrow close decurrent on stem- / 4 Spores. White- / 5. Stem, in some specimens central in / others excentric, in some hardly any- / fleshy solid- / This fungus gets very dry & crisp- retaining / Lentinus lecomtei Fr. [sic] its shape & not decaying- / Aug 1- 1900. Litchfield Conn. / Lintinus [sic]
