Arthur Bates Jennings, architect. Random rubble, frame with shingling; 3 1/2 stories, irregular shape, gabled roof sections; broken skyline with stone stepped gable ends, semielliptical oriel with conical roof, and high chimneys; gabled entrance porch on stone piers with large lunette in gable, side and rear wrap-around porch, wing with decorative patterned shingling and open porte-cochere on 1st-floor level. Queen Anne. Rugged mansion built for Joseph B. Stearns, who became wealthy from invention of duplex telegraphy, by which 2 messages could be sent simultaneously over the same wire.
