Performance Techniques of the Chinese Theater
March, 1996
Studio B, Fine Arts Building, Binghamton University, Harpur College, State University of New York; Binghamton, New York, United States
"This project comes from a class organized to give the participants an appreciation of the performance techniques of Chinese Theatre. The crucial elements demonstrated through this final presentation, are physical and vocal training, symbolic movement and play analysis. It is my hope that this will introduce the audience to the rich heritage of a major form of Eastern performing arts. Throughout the entire process I have been able to fulfill my dream of sharing my knowledge of these techniques and blending Eastern and Western methods. I sincerely believe the ideas and purposes of each are the same. The performance of either contains qualities and meaning that can be noble or exasperating in life. However, one must come to an understanding of the details of each method in order to have a full appreciation of either." --- Kelvin Chai (Director's Notes)
