Orsino, Duke of Illyria, is in love with Countess Olivia. Olivia, in mourning for the recent death of her brother, is not interested and refuses to see the Duke. Viola and Sebastian, identical twins, are shipwrecked off the coast of Illyria. They are rescued separately and each assumes the other is drowned. For safety, Viola disguises herself as a boy, Cesario, and enters service for the Duke. She becomes his messenger to Olivia and finds herself in the difficult position of courting a lady for the man she loves. Olivia falls in love with Cesario ... Meanwhile Sebastian has been recover­ing his strength with his rescuer and friend Antonio ...
