"The Madwoman of Chaillot" is a poetic and comic fable set in the twilight zone of the not-quite-true. In a scene which ascends to the realm of high poetic comedy, the "mad" women of Paris thwart the attempt of promoters to tear up Paris in order to unearth oil. The exodus of the wicked is accompanied by another and more beautiful miracle: joy, justice and love return to the world.
