Description
Marks the place of Buddha's enlightenment. The temple (renovated in the 19th C.) follows the 6th C. temple closely. Dates: mid 3rd C. BCE-late 19th C.: 273-232 BCE, 575 to 600 CE and 1875-1895 CE (present structure). Built by Asoka (reg. 273-232 BCE).
