Description
View along the east wall (left) toward the southeast corner of the Focus Gallery on the lower level of the Walker Art Building. The doorway through the east wall leads to the Center Gallery, and the doorway through the south wall leads to the Zuckert Seminar Room. The exhibition is "Night Vision: Nocturnes in American Art, 1860-1960," which was shown in the Osher, Halford, Center, Becker, and Focus Galleries from June 27, 2015 through October 18, 2015. Organized by Bowdoin's curator Joachim Homann, this is the first major museum survey dedicated to scenes of the night in American art from 1860 to 1960 - from a period prior to the invention of electric lighting to the beginning of the Space Age. This exhibition is accompanied by a major catalog published on July 01, 2015 by DelMonico Books-Prestel and the Bowdoin College Museum of Art and generously supported by the Wyeth Foundation for American Art. An opening reception was held on June 27, 2015 at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art and was preceded by a keynote lecture in Kresge Auditorium given by Barbara Haskell, a curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
