Description
View across Kresge Auditorium on the lower level of the Visual Arts Center during a lecture to celebrate the opening of the exhibition "Night Vision: Nocturnes in American Art, 1860-1960," which was shown in the Osher, Halford, Center, Becker, and Focus Galleries from June 27, 2015 through October 18, 2015. This keynote lecture was presented by Barbara Haskell (shown here), a curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, and discussed several paintings of the night that came to define American modernism. Organized by Bowdoin's curator Joachim Homann, this is the first major museum survey dedicated to scenes of the night in American art from 1860 to 1960 - from a period prior to the invention of electric lighting to the beginning of the Space Age. This exhibition is accompanied by a major catalog published on July 01, 2015 by DelMonico Books-Prestel and the Bowdoin College Museum of Art and generously supported by the Wyeth Foundation for American Art. After the lecture an open house and reception was held at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art.
