View toward the southwest corner of the Temporary Exhibition Gallery located underground between the Visual Arts Center and the Walker Art Building. The exhibition is "Treasures from Near Eastern Looms" and was shown from September 12, 1981 through November 22, 1981 in both the Temporary Exhibition and the Twentieth-Century Galleries. The opening reception for this exhibition was held on September 11, 1981. Second from the left in the background is Philip C. Beam, Henry Johnson Professor of Art and Archaeology Emeritus and director of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art from 1939 to 1964. Professor Beam died in 2005 at the age of 95.
