Description
View along the west wall (left) toward the northwest corner of the Halford Gallery on the lower level of the Walker Art Building. The doorway through the west wall leads to the Center Gallery. The exhibition is "Constructing Revolution: Soviet Propaganda Posters from between the World Wars," which was shown in the Osher, Halford, Center, Focus, and Media Galleries from September 23, 2017 through February 11, 2018. Marking the centennial of the 1917 Russian Revolution, this exhibition of propaganda posters created as an artistic consequence of that pivotal event examines a period of unprecedented experimentation in the history of graphic design. The Svetlana and Eric Silverman Collection provides examples of rare and outstanding works that converted Soviet aspirations into readily accessible and urgent public art. The exhibition's guest curator was Kristina Toland, former assistant professor of Russian at Bowdoin College, and the exhibition's designer was Bob Povall.
