A bust-length portrait photograph of a woman. The woman is positioned with her body facing the camera, however her face is turned very slightly to the right. Her hair appears to be pulled back quite tightly or cropped close to her scalp, and the most prominent element of her hairstyle is her short curled bangs. The neckline of the woman’s dress is visible in the image: a scooped neckline composed of a lace ruffle with what appears to be a cross shaped brooch fastened at the front middle. In the bottom border of the image is the name of the photography company: Baltimore Photographic Company (“Balto Photo Co”) as well as the address of the studio (588 North Gay Street, Baltimore MD). On the upper left corner of the folder enclosing the photograph is a emblem of a woman, seated, with hands clasped in front of her. Beneath the image of the woman is the monogram “WKB”. Below this image, the name “Bachrach” is written or printed in script. This probably indicates the photographer as William Keyes Bachrach, a son of the famed Baltimore photographer David Bachrach. This photo can be dated to sometime between 1896 and 1899-- the span of time at which the Baltimore Photographic Company was located at the address on North Gay Street. The photograph is in good condition despite minor mold damage. The photograph is mounted in a folder-style mount.
