Description
One of Krupp Company's workers' colonies near Essen, the Margarethenhoehe is a southern district of the city of Essen . Its core is the settlement Margarethenhoehe , the first German garden city in terms of design. The 115-acre managed settlement has in 935 buildings over 3092 units, with 50 acres of settlement areas defined as buildable woodland. The area originally belonged to the district Ruettenscheid, which in 1905 was incorporated into the city of Essen, so the people from the beginning were citizens of Essen. It was built from 1906 to 1938 by the architect George Metzendorf (1874-1934), a member of the Deutscher Werkbund, and the first houses were completed in 1910. (Wikipedia)
