Harry Gold graduated from CUMC in 1922. He joined the faculty that same year as an instructor. He was Clinical Professor of Pharmacology from 1947-1965. He died in 1972. He was considered the father of clinical pharmacology. In 1937, Drs. Gold, Kwit and Otto were the first to used the double blind controlled method for testing drugs. He developed the use of digitalis for the treatment of heart disease. He was on the out patient staff at NYH but was never on the attending staff. He consulted as a cardiologist at Beth Israel and Hospital for Joint Diseases.
