The Lawrence G. Payson House was built in 1965-1967 to house doctors, nurses and other staff of the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. The building includes 401 apartments with 82 studios, 135 one bedrooms, 122 two bedrooms, 60 three bedrooms and two four bedrooms. The apartments are soundproofed. The groundbreaking was on April 6, 1965. The formal opening was on June 22, 1967 although tenants occupied the building in April 1967. The architects were Frederick G. Frost Jr. Associates and the contractors were Turner Construction Company.
