Description
This is a fragment from a larger cast of a section of East IV. Preserved in it are the peplos-draped upper body of Demeter in three-quarter pose and facing the viewer's left, her right arm, which is bent up to her face, her upper left arm, and the tip of her torch. The goddess' head, badly damaged in the original, is broken away in this fragment. This piece appears to join with ID no. 440 and perhaps with 477. East IV was cast in three separate pieces by Caproni, a possible source of this and other Parthenon frieze casts owned by Cornell. If this object comes from such a configuration, it is a fragment from the third (from the left) of these three segments.
