This is the upper half of a cast of the battered torso of a smaller-scale Roman copy of the Athena Parthenos, which was discovered on the Athenian Acropolis in 1860. Preserved here are the lowest part of Athena's neck, the upper part of her peplos and its kolpos, the rope-belt tied over the kolpos at the waist, and the goddess' weathered (in the original), scaly aegis. The original is missing its head, arms, and the lower parts of the calves and feet. In this cast the upper and lower parts of the body were produced separately.
