Description
The remarkable clubhouse for the Adirondack Mountain Reserve (Ausable Club) has a complex past. The remoteness of the location, its scenic attributes, and ready access to vigorous climbs and good fishing drew a well-heeled crowd from major East Coast cities. After an earlier hotel burned in 1890, plans were quickly drawn for a new hotel, and the edifice was erected in a matter of four months. The hotel closed in 1904 but reopened two years later as the AMR's clubhouse. The chapel opened to serve the club's population and others in Keene Valley.
