Her hair is parted in two sections and held with dark ribbons on each side. She wears a white striped dress that bustles out around her waist, stopping at the knee. Her arms are draped around the shortest child, the only male. He appears to be about three years old. Standing central, he has a short haircut. He is wearing a dark outfit that is loosely tied around his midsection. His right arm is bent at the elbow towards the belt of the jacket draped around the waist. A third, taller child is standing behind him to the left. She appears to be five or six years old. She is wearing the same outfit and hairstyle as the eldest child. The wall behind them is covered with a white cloth that has a floral print on the right side. The photograph is placed inside a lightly colored paper mount, where a roughly tattered rectangular hole has been cut to display the portrait. The photograph itself is worn and tattered, the edges are uneven. The paper cabinet card also shows signs of aging, appearing discolored and distressed. Written on the bottom of the cardholder is "G. M. Talley, Artist" or "E. M. Talley, Artist". The back is lightly inscribed with “San Antonio,” the name “M. Mary,” a derogatory slur, and vulgar description of the children in light cursive graphic writing.
