Thelma Hinds was born in Jamaica and came to the United States in 1972, settling in Delaware with her mother and stepfather. She attended the University of Delaware. In her interview, she discusses the culture shock she experienced moving to the United States, her experiences with discrimination on campus and in classes, her job at Chrysler as a student, the role of faculty and Black campus organizations in providing a safe space for minority students, race relations in Newark, and her career training teachers. Interviewed by Chris Barnwell over Zoom, running time 1 hour, 11 minutes, 43 seconds.
