Curatorial notes
This engraving, "The Fox and the Bust," comes from the complete edition of La Fontaine’s Fables, published in four volumes by Desaint & Saillant (rue Saint Jean de Beauvais, Paris) between 1755 and 1759. The first six books featured re-worked versions of classical fables by Aesop, Phaedrus, and Babrius, one of which is depicted here.
