The Lawrence tradition of naming four senior women as “Best Loved,” was done from the early 1920s through the mid-1960s. The text on the card reads as follows: Washington Calendar -- Born at Bridges Creek, Virginia Saved remnant of ill-fated Braddock expedition. Married to Martha Curtis nee Dandridge. Accepted command of Continental Army. Received sword of Cornwallis at Yorktown. Becomes president of Federal Convention. Took oath as president of the United States. Death at Mt. Vernon -- Let music swell the breeze. And ring from all the trees Sweet freedom's song: Let mortal tongues awake; Let all that breathe partake! Let ricks their silence break, -The sound prolong. Our fathers' God! to thee Author of liberty, To thee we sing: Long may our land be bright With freedom's holy light; Protect us by thy might, Great God, our King!
