Description
The tintype features an unidentified woman seated in a chair in front of a neutral background. One of the woman's hands supports her head, while the other hand rests on the posing chair. She appears to be wearing a bishop-sleeved flowered calico or chintz dress, as well as a corset. The dress collar is maintained by a pin. Her hair is neatly plaited into two braids, encircling the head and pinned in the back. The type of armchair featured, decorated with tassels, was produced from the 1860s onward, and was most likely used as a recurring prop by the photographer.
