Researcher's Comments:The unabbreviated obverse reads, "Imp(erator) Caes(ar) Gordian(us) P(ius) F(elix) Aug(ustus)", which means "Imperator Caesr Gordian, dutiful and wise Augustus". Marcus Antoninus Gordianus, Gordian III, was emperor from 238 to 244 CE. He was murdered at the age of 21 by the praetorian guard. The unabbreviated reverse reads, "Victoria Aug(usti)", which means "Victory of Augustus". S and C stand for senatus consulto, which means by decree of the senate.
