Description

A bodice and skirt made from a fine green striped silk. The boned bodice features a wide neckline, pagoda shaped sleeves and fastens centre front with two rows of hooks and eyes. The bodice is adorned with two vertical rows of mid-blue braid trimmed with handmade lace, the sleeves with one row. Additional decoration has clearly been removed from the centre front, and possibly the neckline.

The full length skirt, which is widely flared at the back, comprises five panels on a cotton tape waistband, and fastens centre back with four metal hooks and eyes. The stripes mainly run vertically. The dress features a wide band (approximately 32 cm) around the hem, the stripes of which run vertical to horizontal around the back. The inside hem features a trim of stiffened muslin, with a pleated panel, and hand made lace.
