Description

This group of hand painted images tell the story of 'The Three Little Pigs', with a dental health twist. The story has been used as an allegory for building strong teeth (like the little pig that builds the strongest house from bricks). A healthy diet and regular visits of the dental clinic are depicted as equivalent ways to build healthy teeth.

Trainee dental nurses recieved art lessons as the production of posters and teaching aids by dental nurses was an important component of their work. Their artwork was used to decorate dental clinics and to teach children about dental health concepts.

The free School Dental Service was a government initiative that was the primary mode of delivery for children's dental health care for most of the 20th century.
