Description
Circular table-clock with calendrical and lunar indications made by Nicholas Vallin in London between 1598 and 1603.; This table clock enables the user to ascertain the hour of the day, the date of the month, the month of the year (January - December), the lunar date (1-29.5), the position of the Sun and the Moon within the twelve signs of the zodiac (Aquarius - Capricorn), the times of the Moon's southing and the lunar aspects. It was made by Nicholas Vallin, a clockmaker who moved to London with his father from Flanders during the late-sixteenth century. Nicholas and his entire household (close family and apprentices) died in the plague of 1603.
