Commentary: Created by extensive clearances around the Mausoleum of Augustus, and intended to connect the Fascist regime to the first emperor. Two sides were government buildings, one side was occupied by a pavilion housing the Ara Pacis Augustae (since replaced by Richard Meier's shelter for the altar), and the fourth side by the Croatian Pontifical Academy.
