Description
Scrapbook of the Mar-Kay Club detailing activities from 1947 to 1951. The Mar-Kay Club was composed of the wives of Muhlenberg students. They organized activities and events such as lectures and dances. Their name is derived from Mary Katherine Muhlenberg, daughter-in-law of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg as they considered themselves daughters-in-law of the college. The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings of such events and other coverage of the club as well as photographs of members, correspondence with the wives club at Lafayette College, and club documents including their constitution and member lists. Some of the events include a talk by Planned Parenthood, an “April Fool Dance,” a “Hobo Dance,” a talk on “Current Fashions,” and etiquette lessons. Most of the pages are decorated with paintings and drawings.
