Admiralty Islands

Dear Mr. Fister,

I want to thank you for your letter and talk of happenings around college. I can't believe you, though, when you say, "None of us want to take holidays anyway." Now whoever heard of an American not wanting a holiday!

Naturally I'm following the basketball scores. I was afraid of those Owls, but perhaps if Baldwin gets back into shape, we shall have a chance at a Garden invitation -- which is the important thing anyway.

Incidentally, if I should run into some fellow alumni, I'll perhaps drop you a line as to their whereabouts, if I am permitted (or can get away with it).

I was transferred over here to the Seaplane Base a little more than a month ago. We really set up a new aerology office, replacing the one that had been here. I was fortunate in settling in so delightful and peaceful a spot (compared with the Southwest Pacific in general).

I did miss out on several Philippine assignments, for which I am not sorry, to be altogether truthful. This island has many coconut plantations, and we are situated in the middle of one. One night, while sitting at the very rear of our movie theater, a thud of a falling coconut was heard too loudly for safety. The coconut fell about four feet from my head. I took it back to the barracks, but someone drank the milk the next morning before I got the chance.

I might toss you a very deserved compliment. I refer to your Christmas Greeting that you sent with each calendar. It is the finest and best I've read anywhere this Christmas. I have saved it because I liked the meaning of it.

I hear occasionally from Linford Stever in Persia. Professor Deck corresponds with him regularly. If you see Prof Deck, he should be able to show you Persian souvenirs and a bit of the culture of that country.

Keep up the good work, Mr. Fister -- you are doing notable service for Muhlenberg, far better than you will probably be officially credited with.

Sincerely yours,

Warren
