Inscription: obverse, SOUVENIR DE CARTHAGE - SAINT LOUIS, ROI DE FRANCE, PRIEZ POUR NOUS (Souvenir from Carthage - Saint Louis, King of France, pray for us); reverse, LA MORT DE SAINT LOUIS – Cetter image est la reproduction d’un tableau de la salle de la Croisade, à Saint-Louis de Carthage. C’est là que le pieux roi de France mourut de la peste, le 25 août 1270. Le saint expire, étendu, les bras en croix, sur un lit de paille et de cendre, tandis que le légat du Pape, auquel le peintre a donné les traits du cardinal Lavigerie, récite les dernières prières. Les moines et les ecclésiastique qui accompagent le prélat sont également des portraits. Au chevet du moribond, se voit, de bout et consterné, Philippe III dit le Hardi, qui devint roi de France par la mort de son père. A ses pieds, se tient agenouillée sa fille Isabelle, reine de Navarre, qui avait accompangé son père à la Croisade. Pour se procurer cette image, s’adresse aux Rds Pères Blancs, à Carthage, Tunisie. (THE DEATH OF SAINT LOUIS - This image is a reproduction of a painting from the Hall of the Crusade, in Saint-Louis de Carthage. It was there that the pious king of France died of the plague on August 25, 1270. The saint expires, stretched out, his arms outstretched, on a bed of straw and ashes, while the Pope's legate, to whom the painter gave the features of Cardinal Lavigerie, recited the last rites. The monks and ecclesiastics who accompany the prelate are also portraits. At the bedside of the dying man is seen standing and in dismay, Philippe III the Bold, who became king of France at the death of his father. At his feet is kneeling his daughter Isabelle, Queen of Navarre, who had accompanied her father on the Crusade.
