Teaching with ARTstor
ARTstor offers numerous tools and a wealth of content that instructors can use to enhance classroom presentations and their students' learning experiences.
Presentations
Instructors may download images from ARTstor for use in the presentation software of their choice. They also have the option of using ARTstor's tools to create online and offline presentations with both ARTstor and local content.
- Download ARTstor images for use in PowerPoint, Keynote, and other presentation software
Users may export ARTstor images from the Digital Library for use in classroom presentations and other non-commercial, educational uses in the software environment of their choice. They will download as JPEG files at up to 1024 pixels on the long side. Approximately 95% of ARTstor's collections are available at the larger 1024 size, while the remaining 5% may be downloaded at 400 pixels. Once downloaded, instructors may insert these JPEG files into presentation software as they would image files from other sources.
- Use ARTstor tools to combine local content with ARTstor images for…
- Online presentations: Image group presentation allows instructors to give online presentations using ARTstor's Image Viewer. This tool allows for side-by-side comparisons, on-the-fly zooming and panning, and the incorporation of personal collection images with ARTstor content. For more information, please see our Online Help.
- Offline presentations: ARTstor's Offline Image Viewer (OIV) enables instructors to give reliable classroom presentations using both high-resolution ARTstor images and local content without being connected to the internet. Users may download images from ARTstor at up to 3200 pixels on the long side. OIV supports two types of offline presentations: one in which images are presented against a black background; and another in which users can create customized slides. Both types of presentations may be printed as annotated handouts for students. There is also a public version of OIV that is available to those instructors whose institutions do not currently subscribe to ARTstor.

Courseware
Instructors can easily share ARTstor content with their students through local courseware systems such as Blackboard, WebCT, Sakai, or Moodle. Students can analyze images and metadata, and can print, save, and study from individual images, image groups, or OIV presentations. Here are a few ways you can do this:
- Post links to individual images or image groups found in ARTstor.
- Create a basic HTML page for an image group that displays images and corresponding data.
- Share OIV presentations with groups from your local courseware.

Folders
Instructors may share ARTstor image groups with students by creating public or password-protected folders. Public folders will be viewable by anyone at the instructor's institution, while students will need to unlock a password-protected folder and view the instructor's image groups. They may then analyze images and metadata, study, and annotate images. Students and instructors can interact within the ARTstor application by creating and sharing notes, and by having students create their own image groups to share with an instructor.
